Most of the characters in the series, including the main protagonists, are classified into two groups: humans who are born with the power to turn into weapons, called demon weapons, and the wielders of these weapons, called meisters. DWMA is run by Shinigami , also known as Death , the Grim Reaper, as a training facility for weapons and meisters to hone their powers, as well as an organization to preserve world order against anyone who threatens it, including witches , monsters and evil demons called kishin. The spin-off prequel manga titled Soul Eater Not! Slump and wanted to create a story in which serious or intense action scenes would be defused or interrupted with comedic moments. He also decided to use a scythe as Maka's weapon for its unique fighting style. However, he did base a few characters on people he was familiar with, such as Excalibur , whose personality he based on his own father. He also designed supporting character Kilik Rung to be black after noting a lack of African characters in other manga series.
Grew Up Run by Death himself, the Academy is specialized school that teaches weapon meisters and their weapons how to defend the world from evil. Like his father, Kid will one day wield Death Weapons to defend the world from great and powerful evils— but for now, he's just a another meister student at the DWMA. Even as a student, however, Kid's far from ordinary, and his skills have made more than one classmate jealous. Kid is entirely obsessed with symmetry: from the clothes he wears to the missions he picks, symmetry drives Kid's life. If an enemy is perfectly symmetrical, it's no longer an enemy to Kid— even if it's trying to kill him. Relationship Status And it's unclear if Kid could even be attracted to his human classmates.
Kid also has a great sense of morality and order, having expressed to the Flying Dutchman that despite being a god, he doesn't deny evil and that there's no one person without some evil within them. However, he believes that everything is about balance instead and strives to keep the balance between "good" and "evil" in equilibrium. He's quick to question his own father's actions when he had the DWMA storm into Baghdad when searching for Asura and explained that it's wrong to impose their will on others, though was understanding and sympathetic of his father when he realized that due to the threat of Asura, his father doesn't have the luxury of "playing it safe" and may be reckless in his decisions. Like his father, he also has a fierce and much darker side in his personality.
Throughout the series, he's shown to be prideful of his status as a Shinigami, wanting to become the next full-fledged Shinigami and inheriting his father's responsibilities, However, he also wants to do so in his own unique way, even telling his own father he wants to makes his own weapons to his specifications despite Death informing him that as a Shinigami, he doesn't really need to collect souls. This is true, so much so that he even see's himself partly as a human and expressed this fact to Asura.
