I am going to give you my top 10 songs by decade hand-picked. There is so much great roller skating music out there, it was hard to choose just 10 from each decade. IDK if you've noticed, but the pandemic has caused the previously-outdated past time of roller skating to become a major trend again. Guess that means it's time for me to wipe away the dust on my Barbie roller skates once and for all. They were also a nexus for parachute pants-ed and Guess jean-ed youths to discover parameter pushing dance music. Sure, roller rink deejays spun plenty of radio hits by the likes of Prince, Michael Jackson, Madonna, etc. At the time, a new generation of musicians was creating exciting new synth and drum machine addled sounds. In a way, it was very punk rock. Primitive and sparse. Eighties roller skating rink music was also inherently fun. No couple skating here though, these are all hot tracks.
